Description : |
The objective of the IEA PVPS Task 9 is to further increase the overall rate of successful deployment of photovoltaic (PV) systems in developing countries through increased co-operation and flow of information between the IEA Photovoltaics Power Systems (PVPS) Programme and PV professionals in developing countries, development banks, multilateral and bilateral aid agencies, relevant OECD/IEA committees and other targeted groups within developing countries. Task 9 focuses on the practical aspects to successful PV deployment. |

Description of the Actual Services Provided | 1: Deployment Infrastructure. Production of a series of Recommended Practice Guides for successful introduction and expansion of PV systems, drawing from past experiences and lessons learned from technology co-operation projects and programmes. Topics range from financing mechanisms; institutional development; training programmes; operation and maintenance; certification and accreditation; sales infrastructure; and marketing. 2: Support and Co-operation. Promotion of PV systems to target groups in developing countries through existing IEA/OECD committees and working groups. Workshops are directed towards (i) multilateral and bilateral agencies, and (ii) non-Member countries, co-ordinated with bilateral and/or multilateral agencies and/or non-governmental organisations. Workshops have to date been held in Vietnam, Mongolia, Switzerland, Mexico, Canada, Indonesia, Morocco, USA and the Netherlands to a range of target groups. 3: Technical and Economic Aspects of Photovoltaics in Developing Countries. Identification of areas for further research with respect to the deployment of PV systems in developing countries. This activity specifically addresses the three following areas: stand-alone PV systems; village grid and hybrid systems; and grid-connected PV systems. The products of work performed are designed for use by: PV specialists, multilateral and bilateral donor agencies, development banks and other target groups from both Member and non-Member countries of the IEA. A workplan for the next phase of the Task 9 is being drafted, this new workplan will develop and run a concrete dissemination activity. |
