In the frame of the SAVE programme, of which objective is to give orientations to EU policy for Energy Efficiency, this project targets the Air Conditioning systems. AC use in buildings is increasing in EU countries, including in countries where AC was rare till the 80’s, and the impact on electricity consumption is now significant. The study is performed by a consortium of 4 organisations, allowing the understanding of various situations. The activities are the following : * description and analysis of the AC market in the EU, categorisation of consumers per sector and per type of technology used, * elaboration of a software tool modeling the electric demand forecast for AC until 2015, * description of different technologies available, evaluation of electricity saving potential in case of dissemination of best technologies, * the analysis of barriers to the efficient technologies (building envelopes, AC equipment, energy management, etc.), * the definition of different policy measures to overcome those barriers : regulations, labeling, promotion and information, tariffs, etc. * the elaboration of different scenarios combining the various policy measures, the evaluation of the impact on energy consumption through the software, the evaluation of environmental impact depending on the power production structure in each country. |

| Description of the Actual Services Provided | IED was in charge of : * the data collection for France, * the elaboration and the running of the software for modeling the future electricity consumption, * a participation in all activities in collaboration with the 3 partners : analysis of barriers, definition of policy measures, elaboration of scenarios. |
