The Danish-Burkina Faso co-operation in the energy sector started in 1973 and was focussed on the power sub-sector, with SONABEL as main interlocutor. Moreover, in 1993, Burkina Faso was chosen as a « programme country » by the Danish co-operation, and the energy sector as a concentration sector. DANIDA launched, in 1996, a new co-operation programme in the energy sector. |

| Description of the Actual Services Provided | IED was invited to participate to the evaluation mission of the first phase of the programme and to the orientation of the future programme. IED contributed on the following points : * analysis of the key issues of the energy sector in Burkina Faso, * definition of key areas for sector co-operation between Denmark and Burkina Faso in the energy field, * identification of the components of a sector support programme and primary description. The output of the three week field mission based on interviews, field visits and workshops, was to analyse the strategic, and political issues of the Burkina Faso energy sector and formulate recommendations for Danish co-operation. |
