This technical assistance to Ademe was carried out within the framework of a DSM co-operation programme between Ademe and EDF, the French utility. The objective of this work was to clarify the conceptual framework of DSM within the French context, and to propose guidelines for its practical implementation. |

| Description of the Actual Services Provided | As a first task on a methodological front, it implied examining the identification and evaluation criteria related to demonstration projects and programmes initiated in pilot areas of France. The second task consisted in establishing the potential and identifying concepts for programmes in the areas of: * computers, which was found to be the most complex, given technological trends and the necessity of integrating energy efficiency within the broader issues of computer - both software and hardware - reliability; * lighting in buildings, exploring issues specific to certain sub-sectors - offices, schools and universities, shops and shopping centres, hospitals - working out the specificity of decision making processes; * penetration of electronic variable speed drives for industry : an overview of technical and economic potential was briefly conducted, the focus of our work being on investment funding mechanisms. |
