The project is part of the program PMEDE (Electricity Markets Project for Domestic consumption and energy Export) - implemented by the DRC Government and funded by the World Bank - and aims to distribute 25 000 solar systems, including 5 000 fixed systems and 20 000 lanterns in the town of Kimbanseke (Province of Kinshasa). This is a pilot activity for the benefit of social institutions that are not served by the electricity grid. - Approximately 5 000 fixed solar lighting units are provided to public institutions (town halls, schools, health centers, police etc.) - The portable solar lanterns are being distributed to about 20 000 personal of targeted structures, to firstly facilitate their work and also raise awareness on the benefits of these products. This project is supported by the Lighting Africa program. |

Description of the Actual Services Provided | IED is in charge of identifying beneficiaries of fixed solar systems and solar lanterns: - Definition of a methodological approach to identifying beneficiaries - Definition of selection criteria for public institutions and their staff - Inventory of socio-economic data to be collected - Selection and prioritization of the different categories of beneficiaries |
