The project aims at supporting the WAPP in optimizing the performance of their networks. IED was involved in two main activities : 1. Support and advice to the 26 WAPP utilities on the GIS component and distribution network planning 2. Implementing a capacity building program targeting trainers from the Network of Regional Centres of Excellence on distribution network planning and geospatial least cost planning. |

| Description of the Actual Services Provided | Component 1: Supporting a WAPP workshop (1 week) on improving the performance of power utilities and How GIS can help Utilities. Component 2: Capacity building (on site training and remote support) program for 12 trainers from the Network of Regional Centres of Excellence on the issue of geospatial electrification planning and its least cost approach The training covered the following subjects : use of GIS for electricity Utilities, spatial analysis, community-wide demand forecasting, distribution network planning with the use of GEOSIM software. |
