The BioStar project aims to improve the energy supply of agri-food processing SMEs through bioenergy in West Africa by recovering by-products from 5 agri-food sectors. Coordinated by CIRAD's BioWooEB research unit in collaboration with nine African and European partners, BioStar is part of the major European DeSIRA (Development Smart Innovation through Research in Agriculture) programme. The action plans the installation of 16 bioenergy pilot projects in SMEs identified during a requirements assessment. A rice mill has been identified for the use of electricity for its processing residues. This rice mill is located in the Saint Louis region of Senegal, near Ross Bethio. |

| Description of the Actual Services Provided | The associated works and services concern the construction of a self-production power plant based on the gasification of rice husks with a power of 100 kW. The electricity will be produced from gas obtained by the gasification of rice husks; The system will be connected to the national grid and will allow self-consumption for the processing plant and injection of any excess electricity into the national grid. IED Invest has been selected as the EPC (Design, Supply, Installation and Commissioning) contractor for the gasification and power generation system. A major training component for operators is also planned, with the on-site mobilization of staff from IED Invest's support team during the first months of operation. The IED Consult team carried out the design studies for the plant (gasification system, civil engineering guide plans and electrical connection). |
