Description :
The project, launched by the IFC (International Finance Corporation), the AfDB and the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE), aims to support mini-grid developers to better understand and comply with ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) performance requirements and standards. To this end, IED provides technical production and develops practical guides on the IFC PS and AfDB ISS standards, as well as a toolkit to help simplify ESG compliance for solar mini-grid operators.

Description of the Actual Services Provided (1) Rapid assessment of existing documents to map current ESG compliance standards and requirements, as well as associated reporting, impact and monitoring frameworks.
(2) Development of guides related to the AfDB's Integrated Safeguards System (ISS) and the IFC's Performance Standards (PS), to enable mini-grid developers to meet investors' requirements.
(3) Design of a standardized capacity building approach for mini-grid developers to better understand and take ownership of ESG standards, and thus implement them effectively in their projects.
(4) Development of practical tools and materials to be used by mini-grid developers to facilitate compliance with ESG standards.
